Every garden is suitable for photographing birds, even in a small garden we can take good bird pictures. We start with setting up the feeding area. Do not make these in an obscure corner of the garden. Birds must certainly be able to see the environment in order to be able to see imminent danger such as cats and birds of prey in time. Provide your feeding place with a water feature, especially in the summer this provides refreshment. Do not make this water bowl too deep, a few centimeters is sufficient, so that they can bathe well. This always produces great photos. Make sure this watering hole is easily accessible. When setting up your feeding place, also pay attention to the position of the sun, always make sure that it is behind you so that you do not have to photograph in backlight. It is even ideal that the feeding place is set up in a shady spot so that you are never bothered by hard light. Also provide yourself a shelter so that the birds can't see you while shooting. I myself use a shelter that I set up on site a few days before taking pictures. Make sure there is sufficient distance between your shelter and your feeding place. Keep in mind the smallest focusing distance of your lens. Make sure that the background is sufficiently removed from your feeding place, this ensures a nice DOF. Once the feeding area has been set up, start feeding a few days before you want to take pictures. When feeding, the birds come first. Do not feed excessively and also pay attention to what you feed. Fat balls are no problem in winter, but don't start too early. Birds do need time to discover the place. Once the place is found, they will definitely come back. Feed a little bit every day, make sure you place the scatter food in such a way that it is not visible when shooting. While shooting, you sometimes see disturbing elements such as twigs, which you can remove for the next photo session. Have your lens set at the same height as the branches of your feeding spot, this will give a much stronger composition rather than shooting the birds from below or above. Set up your photo material in the morning before the birds are present. This allows them to get used to the set-up and reduces suspicion.
